Plumbing Helper 2
Apprentice

Employment type: Full-time

The Plumbing Helper 2 (aka Apprentice level) has 3 or more years’ experience as a helper and have knowledge of pipes, fittings, and be able to work alongside a licensed plumber/supervisor to complete projects and work orders quick, efficiently, and most of all accurately to a high-quality standard.  Experience should include residential plumbing and commercial builder plumbing and be highly proficient in at least one of the following phases of plumbing construction: ground rough; top-out; finish and at least knowledgeable of the third.  Should be familiar with all three stages.  Additionally, should have experience helping with repairs, water supply, drain cleaning and repair sewer lines, water heater installation, and fixture repair.

 

Pay starts at $19/hr (negotiable depending upon experience)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Perform remodeling in offices, bathrooms, residential homes and commercial buildings

  • Installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances (dishwashers, water heaters, stoves, sinks, tubs, toilets) 

  • Measures, cuts, threads, bends pipe to required angels using tools such as pipe-threading machines and pipe cutters

  • Assists building plan studies and inspects them to help assess material and equipment needs

  • Hangs steel supports from ceiling joists

  • Diagnoses basic problems and/or failures in plumbing systems (residential and commercial)

  • Tests for leaks in new and repaired systems with compressed air and/or water 

  • Works in various environmental conditions and elements (e.g. various temperatures, confined spaces, heights vary from ladder height to roof top, and sub terrain conditions.)

  • Assists with construction, soldering, and brazing pipes
    Transports/accounts for tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites as needed

  • Monitors and maintains plumbing tools for safe operating conditions

Additional Qualifications:

  • Sewer machines (power snakes) – a plus

  • Sewer and drain jetting – a plus

  • Rigid See Snake camera system (or similar) – a plus

  • Roof work possible for vent system cleaning/inspections

  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade

  • Problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements

  • Must provide basic tools; company will provide specialized/large tools

  • Works well with a diverse group of people
    Strong work ethic and moral character 

 

This position requires

  • Must meet and maintain South Shore Plumbing minimum insurance requirements 

  • This position requires a successful completion of a drug screening 

  • This position requires a successful MVR check

  • Valid Driver’s License 

  • Able to legally work in the United States

  • Prior military experience a plus
